Unlocking Weather Patterns: GNSS-R Technology on Triton/Formosat-7R Satellite

The Triton/Formosat-7R satellite, developed and manufactured by the Taiwan Space Agency (TASA), is a meteorological satellite. Its payload is the Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (GNSS-R) instrument, which analyzes the delay Doppler phenomenon of signals reflected off the sea surface by GNSS. This allows for the estimation of wave height and subsequent inference of wind speed. By providing this information, the satellite fills a crucial gap in current meteorological data and contributes to understanding the mechanisms behind the formation of intense weather in low-latitude regions.
