Great Meeting with UT System Chancellor Francisco G. Cigarroa, Associate Vice Chancellor Patricia Hurn, and Associate Vice Chancellor Dale Klein

A group of Taiwanese delegation, The Director General Dr. T. C. Liao, Director of S & T Division Dr. C. P. Chou, and Director of Political Division Mr. Edward Chen of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Houston, paid a visit to the UT System on February 2. The UT System includes 9 academic institutions and 6 health institutions. The meeting was hosted by Chancellor Dr. F.G. Cigarroa, Associate Vice Chancellor Dr. P. D. Hurn, and Associate Vice Chancellor Dr. D. E. Klein in the UT System campus in Austin. The meeting began with a brief introduction of both parties' attendees and the short introduction about TECO. A presentation related to Taiwanese science and technology development, funding and manpower spend on R & D, organization and hierarchy of National Science Council, and the operational system of 13 National Science Parks was given by Dr. C. P. Chou. Interesting questions were raised and answered during the meeting. In addition to introducing Taiwanese strength of high tech, this meeting also focused on the potential collaborative opportunities between UT System and Taiwanese academic institutions. The newly signed research program between NTUM/ CMU and MDACC was brought out to the Chancellor's and Associate Vice Chancellors' attention. Through this international cooperation program, it is anticipated that the academic linkage between UT System and Taiwanese academic institutions will be stronger and stronger.
