The blueprint of future smart living in 2030 was visioned based on the solid display and application industries in Taiwan, combining emerging smart technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence/ internet of things (AIoT). We plan to promote researches of advanced display technologies, making it an important human-machine interface for the realizing smart living, and making Taiwan an important place for providing the total solution of display technologies and application.       

Development of display technologies move more and more toward smart interaction, fusion of visual and real contents/images, rich immersive user experience, such as interactive displays real/floating 3D interactive displays, and immersive/interactive reality displays (such as VR/AR/MR). This special project is organizing academic teams for advanced and fundamental display-related researches and linking the research platforms and resources of research institutes [such as Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL), and Institute for Information Industry (III)] and industries (such as panel makers, LED companies, IC design houses, and system application companies) for accelerating implementation of advanced display technologies and their transfer to industry.   

Major research topics of this project include advanced display technologies, advanced material and key technologies, and smart interactive/sensing technologies and novel application, having interdisciplinary nature. The research teams are required to set application targets/specifications and be able to demonstrated the real advanced technology, for bringing industry/ application viable innovation and cultivating interdisciplinary talents. Through solid fundamental/advance/ interdisciplinary researches, international collaboration, continuous cultivation of talents, it is aimed to strengthen research capacity, to enrich the innovation technologies, application, and industry, and to set the solid foundation for healthy and sustainable development of the related industries and technologies. The final goal of this project is to establish strong research groups and eco-systems for Taiwan’s advanced display technology researches and industry and to produce significant academic and economic impacts.
