位於麻州Woods Hole市的海洋研究科學院台籍研究員林穎聰於2020年6月代表該研究院接受億萬富豪兼探險家Victor Vescovo所創辦之私人海洋研究公司Caladan Oceanic邀請，參加海底探勘計畫並進行深海聲納探測研究。該計畫由Vescovo出資前往地球最深處馬里亞納海溝的挑戰者深淵(Challenger Deep of Mariana Trench)進行科學探勘，並邀請兩位科學家一同加入。 第一名科學家是美國第一位進行太空漫步的女太空人Kathy Sullivan ，第二名科學家為台裔美籍的林穎聰研究員。 林研究員是有史以來第12人、首位亞裔下潛全球最深的挑戰者深淵。

Dr. Ying-Tsong Lin, our Taiwanese Fellow Compatriot, currently works at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as a researcher. Recently he was invited by Victor Vescovo, the pilot and founder of Caladan Oceanic, to travel to the bottom of the Mariana Trench to conduct research on deep ocean acoustics, measurement, and tracking. He is also the 12th person in history and the first person of Asian descent to visit ocean’s deepest seafloor.
