Research Assistant for a Conscious Perception Project

For the coming year and possibly beyond, we are looking for a dedicated research assistant.

For a project concerning the genetic roots of conscious perception within the group of Prof. Po-Jang Hsieh 謝伯讓, Department of Psychology of the National Taiwan University, we are searching for a talented research assistant with a background in experimental psychology. Prof. Hsieh will be your direct supervisor, but in practice, you will work with our lab member, Yaron Caspi, as your day-to-day supervisor.

What we do:

We study genetics, conscious perception, and the gut microbiome. Using various experimental techniques (including EEG, fMRI, tDCS, and rTMS), we search for perception biomarkers and facilitate a novel direction in the study of human consciousness.

We are looking for reinforcement for the following:

• Execution of experiments, especially for rTMS and tDCS that would be carried out at the Taipei Medical University.
• Involvement in data analysis of these experiments.
• Taking part in a literature survey of various experimental tasks in psychological perception.
• Taking a leading role in participants' recruitment for the experiment
• Support for the bureaucratic aspects of the project, especially those related to Chinese.
• Possible: Involvement in using basic programming skills to study aspects of the experimental tasks discussed above.

What you bring to the table:

• You have a bachelor's degree in psychology or related subjects. In special cases, we will consider applicants without prior background in psychology or related fields if she/he wants to use her/his time as an RA to develop herself/himself in the field of experimental psychology. Do not be afraid to apply!
• You are interested in various aspects of experimental psychology.
• You are curious and would like to learn new topics and technologies in experimental psychology independently.
• You have a good command of English. You will need it for direct communication with the study leader (who does not speak Chinese). You will also need it sometimes to communicate with participants.
• Preferable: a basic background in programming and statistics, especially with python and R.

What we offer you:

• A salary of an RA according to the appropriate scale of the National Taiwan University. The position is suitable for part-time work.
• You can look forward to a very pleasant and interesting working environment.
• We actively support you in your future professional and scientific qualifications.
• Compatibility of career and family is important to us — we support this, among other things, with flexible working hours, consideration of part-time options, and home office.
• Tolerance, openness, and equal opportunities for people of all genders are important to us.
• Your position is currently for 12 months, with the option of extension that will be discussed during the first period time.
