Three minutes to change the world! First “Falling Walls Lab” in Taiwan

On May 21, 2020, the Information Center Taipei of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), in cooperation with the German Institute Taipei and the Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), is organizing a Falling Walls Lab in Taiwan for the first time. The DAAD Information Center Taipei is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year at the same time.

Falling Walls Labs are popular science slams that are held worldwide to mark the fall of the Berlin Wall. Students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, and scientists present their innovative ideas and research projects in 3-minute lectures.

The winner of the Falling Walls Lab Taipei is selected by a jury headed by the Director of the German Institute Taipei Dr. Thomas Prinz and the Deputy Minister of MOST, Dr. Dar-Bin Shieh. The Falling Walls Lab Taipei winner will represent Taiwan in the global finals in November and will be given the opportunity to attend the Falling Walls Conference, which takes place annually on November 9 to mark the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The venue for the Falling Walls Lab Taipei 2020 is the large lecture room of the German Institute Taipei (101 buildings, 33 floors). Due to the current security regulations, only selected guests and journalists can attend the event (on request). However, the event will also be made available to a wider audience via a Facebook stream.
