The Center for General Education (CGE) at National Tsing Hua University invites applications for full-time and contract faculty positions, with priority given to candidates specialized in Dimension 4 (“International Relations” and “Journalism and Communication”) and Dimension 1 (“Political Thought”). Details are as follows:
1. Areas of Specialization
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to contribute to the Center’s mission of fostering global perspectives, civic literacy, and interdisciplinary thinking through teaching and research. Priority will be given to the following areas:
• International Relations: Expertise in area studies or international relations theory preferred.
• Journalism and Communication: Expertise in communication regulations/policies, digital media technology, or media literacy preferred.
• Political Thought: Expertise in political theory, political philosophy, ethics, or cross-cultural studies preferred.
2. Position
• Assistant Professor or above (full-time or contract) or Professor of Practice.
• The position is primarily based at the Center for General Education, with the possibility of joint appointment with relevant academic departments. Teaching and administrative responsibilities will be mutually agreed upon and documented in writing by both units. Course assignments, research expectations, and administrative duties for joint appointments will depend on the agreement.
3. Starting Date
Earliest start date: February 1, 2026.
4. Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field.
2. For Professor of Practice: Demonstrate exceptional professional expertise, accomplishments, or achievements in the specified areas, sufficient to undertake university teaching responsibilities. Please refer to the “National Tsing Hua University Regulations for Appointing Professors of Practice” and the Ministry of Education’s “Regulations for Universities Appointing Professional Technicians for Teaching” for details.

I. At least two undergraduate General Education courses (candidates with the ability to teach in English preferred):
a. At least one core General Education course:
- International Relations: Must be capable of teaching and developing the Dimension 4 core course “Global Political Economy” or a similar course (title customizable). Refer to https://pse.is/64wg5c for course design guidelines.
- Journalism and Communication: Must be capable of teaching and developing the Dimension 4 core course “Media Understanding and Rethinking” or a similar course (title customizable). Refer to https://pse.is/64wgcu for course design guidelines.
- Political Thought: Must be capable of teaching and developing a Dimension 1 core course or a similar course (title customizable).
b. At least one General Education elective course related to international relations, information and communication technology, or political thought. Interdisciplinary or travel-based courses are highly encouraged.
II. Two graduate-level or departmental courses (specify the department where the course can be offered).
5. Doctoral Dissertation and Transcripts (required for candidates who obtained a Ph.D. within the past three years).
6. Ph.D. Diploma (photocopy; foreign degrees must be authenticated). If applicable, provide a copy of the Ministry of Education teacher certificate for Assistant Professor or above.
7. List of Publications and Representative Works (follow the National Science and Technology Council format; provide up to three publications from the past five years).
8. Teaching Documentation (e.g., previous course syllabi, teaching evaluations) for candidates with teaching experience.
9. Three Letters of Recommendation (one copy each, signed by the recommender). Letters must be mailed or emailed separately from other materials to the contact person below by July 31, 2025 (Thursday). Letters will not be returned.
6. Application Deadline
All application materials must be received by the Center for General Education by July 31, 2025 (Thursday). Late submissions will not be accepted; please account for mailing time. Only mailed applications will be accepted; non-mailed submissions will not be considered.
