GLORIA Gathers Diverse Biotechnology for New Cooperation Opportunities

Biomedicine is a key industry of Taiwan in recent years, as well as one of the key domains of MoST’s GLORIA. At this year’s COMPUTEX from 5/28 to 6/1, GLORIA will showcase diverse aspects of biomedical technology, including food, cosmetics, brainwave applications, bio detection, and pharmaceutics, offering cooperation opportunities.

National Tsing Hua University’s novel lab-on-chips with multiplex detection for point-of-care testing of drug residues in food ca provide up to 16 kinds of drug quantification, and has the advantages of high sensitivity and specificity detection. Currently, food safety tests use instruments that are mature and reliable and accurate, which are expensive and can only be operated by professionals; before the tests are complete, dishonest products are already in circulation. This technology is time-saving, and is easy to operate even by common users, offering immediate drug quantification information, and is ideal for rapid testing at the site of emergency.

National Taipei University of Technology exhibits “High Value-added Biomedical Materials, Medical Implants, Cellular Therapy, and Innovative Surgical Instruments R&D.” This is the world’s first Class III innovative medical device, a pocket protector for breast implant made with e-PTFE, which covers silicon breast implant in order to prevent or delay the possibility of replacement caused by capsule contracture. The pocket protector, after implant, can be traced and monitored for as long as 8 years; the material is comfortable, and implant requires no massage to blend in with human body. This product can greatly reduce the likelihoods of sequela or breast cancer compared to traditional implant materials.

National Cheng Kung University’s Guard Patch: An intelligent wearable wireless system with IOT-based Bio-medical Evaluation Module, incorporating wearable design, real-time brainwave signal analysis, Smart Urine Detection System, Epilepsy Brain Wave Detection  and Stimulation System.

Also, NCKU exhibits smart patch that can be applied to 24-hour heartrate-monitoring Smart Clothing, seizure brainwave monitoring and stimulation systems, and so on, and is suitable for wearable circuit design, wireless biomedical chip, biomedical detection, and IoT transmission, offering personal healthcare comprehensive electrical solutions.

China Medical University presents novel uses of pipoxolan and its pharmaceutical composition, which is for pathological conditions caused by vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and migration to relieve vascular injury, cerebral ischemia, vascular intimal hyperplasia thickening, atherosclerotic sclerosis, and stroke, having diverse applications in health supplements and drugs.

This exhibition also showcases achievements in biotechnology by each GLORIA alliance, such as many new detection technologies, extract applications, and new pharmaceutical compositions and implants that can be used to treat men and animals, displaying Taiwan’s diverse development across various domains as the island of innovation.
