Faculty Recruitment for the Department of Special Education, National University of Tainan

Rank and Positions: Three (3) full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or above.

Scheduled Start Date: August 1, 2026 or February 1, 2027
Area of Specialization (Primary Area - select one of four)
1. Learning Disabilities (LD)
2. Intellectual Disabilities (ID)
3. Visual Impairments (VI)
4. Interdisciplinary Specialization

Required Qualifications
1. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Special Education or a closely related field at the time of application, earned at a domestic or international institution recognized by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of Taiwan.
2. Demonstrated expertise in the selected primary area of specialization (LD, ID, VI, or Interdisciplinary Specialization). Applicants should indicate one primary area in their application materials.
3. Ability to teach courses in English.
4. A minimum of two (2) peer-reviewed journal articles since 2022 (inclusive), including at least one (1) article indexed in TSSCI, SSCI, SCI, or SCIE. For articles accepted but not yet published, proof of acceptance is required.

Preferred Qualifications
• Clinical teacher education and school-based practice expertise, including mentoring preservice teachers, providing field-based coaching and feedback, and demonstrated experience working in K-12 special education settings.
• Practicum/fieldwork supervision experience in special education settings, including coordination with partner schools/agencies and supervision of teaching demonstrations or internship performance.
• Early intervention experience (practice and/or research), including family-centered practices and collaboration within interprofessional teams.
• Evidence of research development potential, such as a coherent research agenda, peer-reviewed publications, ongoing projects, and/or readiness to pursue external funding.

Teaching Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate instruction. Courses may include,but are not limited to the following, subject to departmental needs and scheduling.
• Learning Disabilities (LD): Resource Room Programs and Management; Curriculum
Design in Special Education; Curriculum Adaptation and Instructional Design for Students with Mild Disabilities; Practicum in Resource Room; Theory and Practice of Inclusive Education.
• Intellectual Disabilities (ID): Introduction to Intellectual Disabilities; Curriculum Design in Special Education; Professional Development for Teachers of Special Education;Introduction to Early Intervention; Career Guidance and Transition for Students with Disabilities; Life Skills Education; Practicum in Self-Contained Classes of Special Education.
• Visual Impairments (VI): Visual Impairment; Braille and Adapted Materials; Assistive Technology for Students with Visual Impairment; Orientation and Mobility; Curriculum and Instruction for Students with Visual Impairment; Practicum in Teaching Students with Visual Impairment.

Application Materials (for Initial Review)
1. Completed application forms (Appendices I and II), submitted in both hard copy and electronic format.
2. Syllabi for three (3) courses the applicant is prepared to teach in the selected area of specialization.
3. Curriculum vitae (CV), including:
• a publication list (please indicate SSCI/TSSCI journal articles; mark the corresponding author with an asterisk “*”, if applicable), and
• a list of research projects and grants, including externally funded projects (e.g., NSTC,MOE, or other public agencies), as applicable.
4. Representative publications/works listed in Appendix II: three (3) complete sets (reprints or photocopies are acceptable).
5. Other relevant research outputs, achievements, awards, or honors (if applicable).
6. Recent teaching evaluation summaries (if available; not required for applicants without prior university-level teaching experience).

1. Degree diplomas: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral diplomas.
2. Official transcript of the highest earned degree.
3. University faculty qualification certificate (if applicable).
4. Teacher certificate (Elementary School, Early Childhood Education, or Special Education), if applicable.
5. Both sides of the Taiwan National ID card (or passport, as applicable).
6. Military service documentation (discharge or exemption), if applicable.
7. Doctoral dissertation: one (1) hard copy.
