The primary mission of the Science and Technology Division (STD) in France is to establish and oversee scientific collaborations between Taiwan and France, as well as with Spain, Italy, and Portugal.
STD in France serves as the official liaison between the Taiwanese government and the governments of France, Spain, Italy, and Portugal on matters related to research and technology.
Additionally, STD in France is responsible for promoting existing agreements, such as Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), that have been signed between Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and prominent French research agencies and institutes, including ANR, CNRS, INRIA, INSERM, INCa, HERCULES, and the Académie des Sciences (Ads). Similar collaborations are pursued with institutions like CSIC in Spain and CNR in Italy. The division facilitates exchange visits, fosters collaborative initiatives, and monitors the progress of ongoing research projects.
Moreover, STD in France aims to forge new collaborative ties between Taiwanese research institutes and other prestigious foreign research organizations, including IFREMER, CNES, Institut Pasteur, CEA, and AI/Quantum-related research centers. The division actively promotes bilateral research visits and supports joint seminar funding.
