The Automatic Weather Station of the CWB on Nansha Taiping Island

The Automatic Weather Station of the CWB on Nansha Taiping Island

In October 2014, the Central Weather Bureau(CWB) began its plan to build automatic weather and tidal stations on Nansha Taiping Island. The construction was completed in December 2016 and the stations have since been providing observations of South China Sea for weather forecast and disaster management purposes. The data from these observation facilities are combined with those from manned observations of Meteorological and Oceanographic Office on Nansha Taiping Island to meet the standards of WMO, and are transmitted in the WMO exchange format on global networks to better provide South China Sea observations data to operation centers of other countries in the spirit of international cooperation.

The Central Weather Bureau build a microwave radiometer and a wind profiler, an advanced remote measurement wind aloft observation system for automatic meteorological operation, on Dongsha Island since 2017.
