Overall purpose
To work within the Group of Dr Sjors Scheres at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), within a programme aimed at understanding the formation of amyloid filaments in neurodegenerative disease. Specifically, to undertake research to investigate the cryo-EM structures of amyloid filaments generated from purified recombinant proteins, inside cellular aggregation systems, or extracted from human or mouse brain, with an overall aim to develop lab-based procedures to form filaments with the same structures as those observed in various neurodegenerative diseases, and to develop structure-specific binders against such filaments and/or the application of correlative light-electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography to study the ultra-structural organisation of amyloid filaments in mouse and/or human brain tissue.
Academic qualifications
These should include a PhD in a relevant subject or due to complete PhD within 6 months.
Technical skills and expertise
Experience of and ability to perform techniques relevant to the project. Particularly useful would be a strong background in protein biochemistry/biophysics; experience with handling of amyloids; or expertise in cryo-EM/ET.

薪資待遇：£41,344 per annum
