Postdoctoral Opportunity: Large-Scale Aero-Hydro Coupling of Offshore Wind Turbines
A qualified candidate is invited to apply for a National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Postdoctoral Fellowship to be hosted within a multi-year research project at the Department of Marine Environment and Engineering, National Sun Yat-sen University (Kaohsiung, Taiwan). The successful applicant will receive full support in preparing the fellowship proposal, and the appointment will be contingent on the fellowship award.
Project Description
Accurately predicting the combined effects of atmospheric turbulence and ocean wave loading on offshore wind turbines is a critical challenge in renewable energy. This project will focus on developing a numerical framework for coupled aero-hydrodynamic analysis of complete turbine systems.
The central task is to implement a wall-modeled immersed-boundary method within a two-phase VOF-LES solver (OpenFOAM). The resulting framework will enable large-scale simulations of complete turbine systems, including power production, wake interactions, and unsteady structural loads under operational and extreme conditions.
Candidate Profile
PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Ocean Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related field
Publication record demonstrating expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
Knowledge of fluid mechanics, turbulence, and numerical methods
Strong programming skills in C++; experience with OpenFOAM development is a major asset
Proficiency in academic English
Application
Please contact asim.onder@mail.nsysu.edu.tw to discuss the project and the fellowship application process. Applications should include a CV and a summary of research accomplishments and interests.
