Position Highlights
The Department of Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering at the National Taiwan University (NTU) invites applications for a motivated Postdoctoral Scholar in hydrogeology or machine learning. The research emphasis is primarily on the developing frequency domain data fusion framework to understand the vadose zone hydrological processes. The successful applicant will work to advance our ability to characterize the subsurface properties as they pertain to impacts on buffering capacity of hydrological system. In this exciting role, the applicant will be responsible for integrating temporal and spatial datasets collected by a diverse set of field teams as well as from public remote sensing databases. The primary task is focused on big and diverse data analysis, integration and scaling using machine learning techniques, characterizing the subsurface, and understanding the spatiotemporal dynamics of hydrological functioning. In addition, there is also flexibility in the type of research that will be determined based on the strengths and experience of the candidate.
What You Will Do:
•Analyze data and extract patterns and correlations from environmental datasets using appropriate data mining methods.
•Develop and implement ML based algorithms for integrating spatiotemporal datasets for subsurface characterization.
•Author peer-reviewed conference or journal papers, and contribute to grant proposals.
What is Required:
•Ph.D. in Hydrology, Geoscience, Environmental Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or other related disciplines.
•Experience and knowledge with environmental and hydrological datasets and research practices.
•Theoretical understanding and application of data analysis methods such as statistical techniques, signal processing, pattern recognition, or data-informed modeling.
•Demonstrate ability to publish research in relevant journals
•Work independently and in an integrated team environment
•Strong and effective oral and written communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
•Familiarity with frameworks that enable data analytics (e.g., Kalman filter, sequential linear estimator, etc.)
•Familiarity with libraries, frameworks, or workflow tools that enable machine learning.
•Demonstrate record of publications and conference presentations.
Salary
•$65,000 - $72,000 per month
•This is a full-time, two-year, appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
•Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on the qualifications and years of experience post-degree.
Location: This job will be located at NTU facility in Taipei, Taiwan.
